Day 2

So it's day 2 of my "oil pulling" experiment.

I think the biggest problem is in my own mind. It's just getting the oil into my mouth. But once I get over the ick factor, it's all good. I don't know if it's me but today I couldn't taste the coconut as much. Hm. My mouth actually felt tired. I had to keep stopping because my face my tongue were just sore. Probably from the 20 minute workout I gave them yesterday with this same exercise.

When I spit the oil out, it was even more of that grayish color that I saw yesterday. So maybe more toxins were starting to come out of my body...? I'm actually even more curious about this whole thing. It has intrigued me to continue this little experiment. :)

Day 1

This is the first day I tried "oil pulling". I have to say, it was pretty freaking gross. I store my coconut oil in a cool place so it's hardened and getting a whole tablespoon in my mouth was...a task to say the least. I admit, I gagged a bit.

After I got my gag reflex under control and got passed the gross factor, it wasn't that bad. The oil melted seconds after putting it in my mouth so that was a plus. When the oil became the same temperature as my body, it was sort of like -not to be gross- having a mouth full of saliva. Every once in a while I would taste the coconut in it so it's not like it was just the taste of oil.

I swished it around for the full 20 minutes and when I spit it into the toilet, it was gray. Gross, right? But while I was at work I started thinking "What if the gray stuff is actually the toxins coming out of my body?" Pretty cool if it was.

This was only the first day so I didn't expect to see results, but I'm actually looking forward to seeing clearer skin, whiter teeth, and just feeling better. Oh! I'm also trying this to help me quit smoking so FINGERS CROSSED. :)

The Game Plan

Okay. I've been reading up on this "oil pulling" thing. At first, I was kind of skeptical. I started reading more and more, and I thought "Hey, what's the harm in trying it?" Conclusion: I've decided to try it. And blog about it.

For those who are unaware of what "oil pulling" is, it's a technique (or so I'm calling it) of taking a tablespoon or so of oil (sesame seed oil, extra virgin olive oil, sunflower seed oil, etc) and swishing it in your mouth like mouthwash-DO NOT SWALLOW-for about 15 to 20 minutes. In my case, I'm using coconut oil. Anyways, "oil pulling" is supposed to draw out the toxins in your body, leaving you feeling...well, feeling good. :)

This is my experience (or experiment) with "oil pulling".
